Fighting Joe of Longvale and his fellow adventurers are fighting a group of gobolyns. During the fight, Joe is struck once with a club for 6 DPs and twice with an axe for 27 and 30 DPs each. He records each wound in its appropriate column and keeps a running total. Joe's MWL is only 65 DPs, so when his wounds reach 72 DPs he must make an endurance roll at -7 (wounds-MWL=penalty 72-65=7 penalty) to remain conscious. He succeeds, and since the fight is nearly over, he decides to rest and heal his stunning damage. Joe doesn't have the first aid skill, and the others in his group are too busy to help him, however he does succeed in making three endurance rolls at -7, -6 and -5 (remember for every MR spent resting he heals 1DP stun damage). He doesn't have to make any endurance rolls to remain conscious, since he is not taking any further damage.

After 30 seconds of rest (that's 6 MRs rest and 6 DPs stun damage healed) a group of sprigands arrive ready to fight. During the fight, Joe is struck with a sword and takes 59 DPs damage. This brings his total wounds up to 125 DPs. He rolls his endurance at -60 (wounds-MWL=penalty 125-65=60) and fails, falling unconscious! Joe fails his endurance roll next round and takes 1 DP damage, however, since he is resting (unconscious) he heals 1 DP of stun damage each MR. The net result is that as long as he continues to fail his endurance roll and fails to receive medical aid, he will continue to take 1 DP of killing damage and heal 1 DP of stunning damage every other MR. If the bleeding is stopped before he dies, he will regain consciousness as soon as his wounds drop back below his MWL.
